HL Deb 11 July 1934 vol 93 c502
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion that stands in my name, which is in pursuance of the promise given to the noble Lord, the Leader of the Opposition, last week. The names of the noble Lords whom I suggest should form the Committee have been discussed and approved through the usual channels, and I do not think we could have a body more apt to discharge the duty we are asking them to perform.

Moved, That a Select Committee be appointed to consider the Standing Orders of the House, with a view to any amendment or revision of the same which may result in a saving of expense, having particular reference to the daily reprinting and recirculation of Motions or Notices which are left for considerable periods on the Order Paper.

That the Lords following, with the Chairman of Committees, be named of the Committee:

(Viscount Hailsham.)

LORD MARLEY

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Leader of the Opposition I have to thank the noble Viscount the Leader of the House for so quickly and adequately responding to his request.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.

House adjourned at five minutes before seven o'clock.
