HL Deb 16 November 1933 vol 89 c428

Clause 61, page 3.5, line 35, after ("shall") insert ("in the case of the chairman, at the meeting at which he is elected and, in the case of a councillor").

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, this is a drafting Amendment. It is intended to make it clear that the chairman of a parish council, as in the case of the chairman of other authorities, can make the necessary declaration of acceptance of office at the meeting at which he is elected chairman. This was the intention of the clause, but it has been pointed out that as the clause is drafted, it is open to doubt whether the chairman can make the declaration at that meeting. I beg to move that this Amendment be agreed to.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
