HL Deb 16 November 1933 vol 89 cc427-8

Clause 50, page 28, line 21, leave out ("thirty-four") and insert ("thirty-seven").

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords this looks rather a curious Amendment. It is necessitated by the postponement of the date of the Bill coming into operation. Your Lordships may ask why that means a difference between 1934 and 1937. The reason is that parochial elections take place—I think about April—in 1934. The Bill does not come into force until June 1, 1934, and so it is necessary to provide for the three years to 1937 when the next elections will be held. I move that this Amendment be agreed to.

Moved, That this House doth agree With the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
