HL Deb 21 February 1933 vol 86 c788
LORD PONSONBY OF SHULBREDE

My Lords, perhaps the Leader of the House will be good enough to tell us what the business will be next Thursday, and, if possible, in the early clays of next week?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, on Thursday next there are certain Orders which will not take any time to confirm. I understand that the Report stage of the Bill through which we have just been going will be taken, and I think the Committee stage of the Bill to which we have given a Second Reading, the Assurance Companies (Winding Up) Bill, will also be taken. I do not understand it will be a long or controversial sitting, but it will be useful to get those Bills out of the way.

So far as next week is concerned, on Tuesday there is a Motion upon unemployment by the right rev. the Lord Bishop of Winchester. It may be that the Austrian Loan Guarantee Bill will also be taken for Second Reading on that day. Then on Wednesday there is the London Passenger Traffic Bill. I have not yet quite ascertained how long a debate is anticipated on that measure. It is a matter which involved considerable discussion in another place, and should it appear probable that a large number of your Lordships desire to take part in discussion here I would suggest that we might let that debate take a second day and have a Division on Thursday. If there is only to be a small amount of discussion we can dispose of it on Wednesday. I am endeavouring to make inquiries through the usual channels, and perhaps I can tell the noble Lord on Thursday the result of those inquiries.

House adjourned at ten minutes before six o'clock.
