HL Deb 07 July 1932 vol 85 cc711-2

Page 99, line 13, leave out lines 13 to 15.

The Commons disagree to the above Amendment for the following Reason: Because it is inconsistent with other provisions in the Bill.

VISCOUNT SNOWDEN

This last Amendment is consequential on the previous Amendment, but I formally move that this House cloth not insist upon its Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth not insist upon the said Amendment—(Viscount Snowden.)

THE DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH

But I think it is necessary. It is a drafting Amendment, and necessary.

VISCOUNT SNOWDEN

I hesitate to express an opinion on Scottish law, but I am instructed that this is consequential upon the House of Commons disagreement with your Lordships' Amendment on whipping in the body of the Bill, and that therefore it would be inconsistent in regard to Scotland if the course were not followed by your Lordships' House.

LORD BANBURY OF SOUTHAM

We insist.

On Question, Motion disagreed to: Lords Amendment insisted upon accordingly.

A Committee appointed to prepare Reasons for the Lords insisting on certain of their Amendments: the Committee to meet forthwith.

Report from the Committee read and agreed to; and a Message sent to the Commons to return the Bill with the Amendments and Reasons.
