HL Deb 06 July 1932 vol 85 c588

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE EARL OF LUCAN

My Lords, this is another Provisional Order issued by the Secretary of State, and the object of the Bill is to confirm a Provisional Order which provides for the Fire Brigade Pension Fund for Newcastle-on-Tyne, under the local Act of 1892, being united with the Newcastle Police Fund. The fire brigade and the police are under similar conditions. The Police Act of 1893 provided that pensions, etc., payable to members of a fire brigade who are constables are to be paid out of police funds, and empowered the Secretary of State to make a Provisional Order bringing the provisions of the local Act into harmony with the Act of 1893. Nothing was done at that time. In the Police Act of 1921 these sections were re-enacted, and the local authority have now applied for an Order bringing the local Act into harmony with the original Act. The Order set out in the Schedule of this Bill lays down the procedure which is required.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed.
