HL Deb 05 July 1932 vol 85 c586
VISCOUNT HAILSHAM

My Lords, before the House adjourns, I would like to express if I might my regret that your Lordships should have been invited to meet early this afternoon when business, as it turns out, could have been finished at the ordinary time. I would like to explain that the Committee stage of the Town and Country Planning Bill took two sittings, including one till nearly midnight, and the fact that we have been able to get through the Report stage so expeditiously is largely due, I think, to the manner in which the. Ministers in charge were able to meet the critics of the Bill and to reach an accommodation, which only took effect very late yesterday evening. I should not like your Lord-ships to imagine I was inviting the House to sit unnecessarily early without some grounds for doing so.

House adjourned at five minutes before five o'clock.
