HL Deb 12 April 1932 vol 84 cc5-6

Read 3a (according to Order).

The Schedule:

THE EARL OF LUCAN

My Lords, I understand there are some Amendments to this Bill which I shall have to move on behalf of my noble friend Lord Strathcona. The first Amendment is a formal one. It is on page 8, line 28, after "except" to insert "Section 43 (Future purchase of undertaking by local authority)." This Order authorises the transfer to the Corporation of a comparatively short length of tramway in the Burgh of Musselburgh and it was required to include in the Order a clause giving power to purchase after a period of years. The length of the tramway is very short in Musselburgh, and it is probable that it would not be practicable to run it as a separate undertaking. Therefore the Burgh of Musselburgh and the Corporation of Edinburgh have agreed that this clause should be excepted. The Secretary of State thinks that is perfectly reasonable. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 8, line 28, after ("except") insert ("Section 43 (Future purchase of under- taking by local authority) and").—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

THE EARL OF LUCAN

My Lords, the next Amendment is practically a drafting Amendment to leave out the figure (1), and the following Amendment is linked up with it, to insert after "rights" the figure (1). I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 45, line 13, leave out ("(1)").—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Amendments moved—

Page 45, line 16 after ("rights") insert ("(1)").

Page 45, line 36 after ("Act") insert ("and").—(The Earl of Lucan.)

On Question, Amendments agreed to.

Bill passed, and sent to the Commons.

House adjourned during pleasure.
