HL Deb 20 November 1931 vol 83 c69
LORD PONSONBY OF SHUL-BREDE

My Lords, I should like to ask the noble and learned Viscount the Leader of the House if he can make any statement about the business for next week.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, assuming that your Lordships accede to the Motion which is to be made by my noble friend Viscount Brentford, the Motion which at present stands in his name for Wednesday will take its place first on Tuesday next. On Wednesday there is a Motion by my noble friend Viscount Elibank. I am proposing to ask your Lordships to take the Second Reading of the Statute of Westminster on Thursday, provided that that Bill passes in another place by Tuesday evening. I know that that is not a very long interval, but your Lordships will appreciate that we want to have an interval between the Second Reading and the Committee stage. I hope that this House will not be sitting very much longer, and unless we take the Second Reading next Thursday it will involve either delaying the adjournment of the Session or else practically having no interval between the Second Reading and the Committee stage.
