HL Deb 27 July 1931 vol 81 cc1225-6

Clause 8, page 9, line 29, leave out ("(a)")

Clause 8, page 9, line 39, leave out ("(b) without the authority of the Minister") and insert ("(iv)")

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendments.—(Lord Marley.)

LORD HASTINGS

May I at this point ask the noble Lord, Lord Marley, if in respect of Clause 9—[Importation of bulls rejected in Ireland]—it is definitely understood that in spite of the fact that the coming into force generally of the Act is to be delayed, this particular Clause 9 actually comes into force directly the Act is passed into law?

LORD MARLEY

I do not think Clause 9 is amended. I think Clause 9 is as it left your Lordships' House.

LORD HASTINGS

Yes. But there has been a postponement in respect of certain parts of the Act. An alteration has been made in the date upon which it comes into law, which I shall refer to later on, and the agricultural community are particularly anxious that Clause 9 should come into effective force on the date of the passing of the Act.

LORD MARLEY

I think that is a question of interpretation.

LORD HASTINGS

I wonder if the noble. Lord could interpret?

LORD MARLEY

I am sorry I feel I cannot help the noble Lord.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
