HL Deb 16 July 1931 vol 81 c887
VISCOUNT HAILSHAM

I do not know whether before the commencement of business I might be allowed to ask the Leader of the House if he can make any statement with regard to the European situation.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (LORD PARMOOR)

My Lords, I promised the other day that as soon as a statement could be made I would try to make it here simultaneously with a statement in the House of Commons. The statement of the Prime Minister in the House of Commons is as follows: Since this morning's communiqué was issued further consultations have taken place. Pursuant to these we have been informed that the German Chancellor has now decided to proceed to Paris. The visit that I had intended to pay to Berlin with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs has in consequence been postponed. The Conference of Ministers will take place in London on Monday as already announced.
