HL Deb 01 July 1931 vol 81 c482
EARL BUXTON

My Lords, I wish to mention to the Leader of the House a question in regard to a matter of business. He will remember that yesterday I had a Motion down in regard to slavery, thinking that the Orders ahead of it-would be non-contentious. As it, turned out, they were contentious, and he will remember that I was unable to bring my Motion forward at such a late hour. He was good enough to communicate with me in the matter, and I gave notice that I would bring it forward on Wednesday week, July 15. I have been in communication since with the most rev. Primate, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the noble Lord, Lord Lugard, who desire to take part in the debate, and I find that the date that will suit them best is Wednesday, July 22. Accordingly I desire to put the Motion down for that date.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (LORD PARMOOR)

My Lords, I am much obliged to the noble Earl. Certainly it would suit us very well on this Bench. I am very glad to hear also that it suits the most rev. Primate and Lord Lugard. It is very necessary that both of them should be present when the Slavery Resolution is brought forward. The noble Earl's Motion will come on first on the day he has mentioned.
