HL Deb 01 December 1931 vol 83 c229
LORD PONSONBY OF SHULBREDE

My Lords, I understand that the Prime Minister's speech at the Round Table Conference is to be the subject of debate in another place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Perhaps the Leader of the House will tell us if some Resolution will be placed before your Lordships' House on the same subject?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, I am grateful to the noble Lord for giving me an opportunity of saying to your Lordships that I understand that the Prime Minister's statement to the Round Table Conference, this morning, included a statement that it was proposed to ask Parliament to endorse the principles on which it proceeds, and that there is to be a Resolution moved in another place, to-morrow, endorsing that statement. It does seem to me that it would be very unfortunate if this House did not have a similar opportunity of discussing that subject to that afforded in another place. To-morrow is too short notice, but I propose, if your Lordships agree, that a Resolution endorsing the statement should be put, down for discussion on Thursday, the day after to-morrow.
