HL Deb 13 May 1930 vol 77 c486
THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

My Lords, perhaps it would be for the convenience of your Lordships if the noble and learned Lord the Leader of the House would indicate what he proposes to do with reference to the sitting of the House this evening and also to-morrow.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (LORD PARMOOR)

My Lords, I propose, if it is convenient to the rest of the House—we should, of course, have regard to any suggestions the noble Marquess might make—that we should adjourn this evening from about a quarter to eight until nine o'clock. Then at nine o'clock we should resume and go on to an appropriate hour, which will depend upon how much progress is made. I think it would be better to leave any suggestion with regard to to-morrow's sitting until we see how far we have got on with the business to-night. Our desire is to have a full discussion with the maximum of convenience, if I may put it in that way. I am glad to say that the noble Lord, Lord Banbury of Southam, has intimated to me that he will defer the Question which he has put on the Paper for to-morrow, in order to meet the general convenience of the House, so that we shall have to-morrow quite free.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

The noble Lord has behaved exactly as one would expect him to behave, but I should like to ask the noble and learned Lord, if it should happen that the Committee stage is not finished to-morrow, what course he would take in those circumstances?

LORD PARMOOR

I propose that we should go straight on until we finish the Committee stage. I think I intimated that the other day. If the Committee stage is not finished to-morrow we shall continue on Thursday.
