HL Deb 05 March 1930 vol 76 c786
VISCOUNT TEMPLETOWN

My Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government whether they will now compensate the Basle Trading Company for that portion of their property situated in India and not returned to them.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (EARL RUSSELL)

My Lords, this is not exactly a question of compensation. The matter is extremely simple. As matters now stand, the return of the property in India has been offered to the Basle Trading Company upon conditions, and it now rests merely with the Trading Company to accept or reject that offer.

VISCOUNT TEMPLETOWN

My Lords, I do not for a moment doubt what the noble Earl has said; but his answer does not satisfy me, and I shall venture to bring this matter before the House on another occasion.
