HL Deb 25 June 1930 vol 78 cc126-7
LORD TEMPLEMORE

My Lords, with the leave of the House, I should like to ask the noble Lord the Under-Secretary of State for War the first Question which stands in my name on the Paper. In doing so I should like to tender him my congratulations upon his promotion to be Under-Secretary of State for War.

[The Question was as follows:—To ask His Majesty's Government with reference to the question and answer given in this House on 31st October last, whether they are now in a position to state what are the peace stations of the artillery and engineer units and the, supply and medical services of the 5th Division; and where and in what formations the units of this Division are to carry out their advanced training this year.]

LORD MARLEY

My Lords, I should like to thank the noble Lord very much for his kind expression of congratulations. I am attempting to fill the place which he filled so ably in a previous Administration. Am I right?

LORD TEMPLEMORE

I never did.

LORD MARLEY

I am sorry the noble Lord did not. He ought to have done so from the knowledge he displays. The Question of the noble Lord is a starred Question and the reply in that case is a purely formal one. The 19th Field Brigade, Royal Artillery, stationed at Newcastle and the 55th Field Company, Royal Engineers, stationed at Catterick, have been allotted to the 5th Division. The necessary medical and supply services are provided at the various stations occupied by units of the 5th Division. It is proposed to carry out advanced training during this year as follows:— Machine Gun Concentrations: The 13th, 14th and 15th Infantry Brigades and the 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards at Catterick during July and August. Battalion and Brigade Training: The 13th and 14t1h Infantry Brigades in the Catterick area from 18th to 20th September, and the 15th Infantry Brigade is going down to the Buxton area at the same dates. Three Divisional Exercises have been arranged and will be carried out during September in the Catterick area by the 5th Division without that Infantry Brigade which is going down to Buxton.
