HL Deb 31 July 1930 vol 78 c1165

Clause 28, page 26, line 29, leave out ("cottage gardens exceeding one quarter of an acre")

EARL DE LA WARR

My Lords, this is not quite a drafting Amendment. It was inserted to meet a point raised in Committee in another place, that this definition would work unfairly if retained in the Bill. Accordingly, I am moving to leave out these words, which will exclude from rating as agricultural land all cottage gardens whether occupied by a person of the labouring class or not. They will still be rated at only one-third of the annual value. I move that the Commons Amendment be agreed to.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Earl De La Warr.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
