EARL RUSSELL

My Lords, the Amendments to this clause are directed to two main objects. The first is to provide that a bridge authority—that is, a, railway or canal company—can grant a permit for the use of a bridge maintained by them for a vehicle carrying an exceptional load. The second is to make it clear that conditions may be attached to the grant of a permit either by a highway authority or a bridge authority. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendments.—(Earl Russell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
