HL Deb 25 July 1930 vol 78 c848

Page 36, line 3, at end insert: ("(3) It shall be the duty of the owner of a motor vehicle to give such information as he may be required by or on behalf of a chief officer of police to give for the purpose of determining whether the vehicle was or was not being driven in contravention of Section thirty-five of this Act on any occasion when the driver was required under this section to produce his certificate, and if the owner fails to do so he shall be guilty of an offence.")

EARL RUSSELL

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment. Subsection (2) has been modified and now appears as subsection (3). The modification requires the owners of a motor vehicle to give such information as possible as to whether the vehicle was or was not driven in contravention of Section 35—that is, without being insured—on any occasion, instead of being merely required to give information as regards the driver. In the case of the cover against third party risks, the question is whether the driver was insured or not.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Earl Russell.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

EARL RUSSELL

I think this will be a convenient moment at which to adjourn, until two o'clock.

[The House adjourned at a quarter past one o'clock and resumed at two o'clock.]
