HL Deb 20 June 1928 vol 71 c550
THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, I desire to acquaint the House with the fact that owing to what has happened in another place to-day there will have to be a slight modification in the time of our sitting to-morrow. As your Lordships are aware, there will be a Royal Commission to-morrow for the purpose of confirming the election of the Speaker. That will necessitate our meeting rather earlier and I ask your Lordships, if you are willing, to meet, therefore, at 2.45 to-morrow with a view to the Royal Comsion and the confirmation of the Speaker. Then it would seem to be for the convenience of the House that we should not adjourn but should proceed with our ordinary business immediately thereafter. I do not anticipate, from the appearance of the Order Paper, that the ordinary business to-morrow will take very long. That is all the more reason why we should proceed with it immediately.

VISCOUNT HALDANE

Can the noble Marquess say whether the proceedings on the confirmation of the Speaker will be more than formal in this House?

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

They will be nothing more than formal.
