HL Deb 17 November 1927 vol 69 c111
VISCOUNT HALDANE

Can the noble Marquess give us any indication as to the course of future business?

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, I understand, from messages which have reached me, that it is likely that the Government of India (Statutory Commission) Bill will be through another place by the middle of next week, and in that event we should suggest that the Royal Commission should be held on Wednesday, in order that it should be passed into law forthwith. That will open the way for the discussion on the Indian Resolution, which, with the consent of your Lordships, we propose to take on Thursday, that is, to-day week. Then I hope that both the Cinematograph Films Bill and the Landlord and Tenant Bill will be through the House of Commons before the end of this week. In that event we should propose to take the Second Reading of the Cinematograph Films Bill on Monday week, November 28, and the Second Reading of the Landlord and Tenant Bill on Tuesday week, November 29. My noble friend will understand that these announcements are subject to the exigencies of the House of Commons. It is what I hope may take place.

VISCOUNT HALDANE

Has the noble Marquess any prediction to make as to when the Unemployment Insurance Bill is likely to reach this House? Of course he cannot do more than conjecture.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

Not before the end of the month, at any rate.
