HL Deb 24 March 1927 vol 66 cc745-6
THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE

My Lords, in moving the Motion that stands in my name next upon the Paper with reference to Private and Provisional Order Confirmation Bills, I ought to say that this is the usual Motion by which we hope to encourage all the Public Departments and others concerned to get on with their work expeditiously for the convenience of your Lordships. I should only like to add that I think that this Motion is especially important this year as we have promises and hopes of an earlier termination of the Session than usual. I hope, therefore, that all those concerned will co-operate in conforming with the rules that we are now, as usual, laying down. I beg to move.

Moved, That no Private Bill brought from the House of Commons shall be read a second time after Tuesday the 28th of June next:

That no Provisional Order Confirmation Bill brought from the House of Commons shall be read a second time after Tuesday the 28th of June next:

That when a Bill shall have passed this House with Amendments these orders shall not apply to any new Bill sent up from the House of Commons which the Chairman of Committees shall report to the House is substantially the same as the Bill so amended:

That this House will not receive any Petition for a Private Bill later than Tuesday the 3rd of May next, unless such Private Bill shall have been approved by the High Court of Justice; nor any Petition for a Private Bill approved by the High Court of Justice after Thursday the 5th of May next:

That this House will not receive any report from the Judges upon Petitions presented to this House for Private Bills after Thursday the 5th of May next.—(The Earl of Donoughmore.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Ordered, That the said Orders be printed and published and affixed on the doors of this House and Westminster Hall.
