HL Deb 02 March 1927 vol 66 cc295-6
THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion which appears on the Paper in my name.

Moved, That Standing Order No. 91 be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of the said Bill, and that the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Donoughmore.)

LORD BANBURY OF SOUTHAM

My Lords, this Bill contains two clauses which enable the corporation to run entertainments, concerts, and various affairs of that kind on a pier that they have lately acquired from private owners. This is another attempt, perhaps in a small way, to introduce municipal trading into these Bills, and it is to be hoped that in Committee these clauses will be omitted. If not, I shall feel it my duty to move their omission on the Report stage.

THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE

My Lords, I am much obliged to my noble friend for giving us notice in this way. If I may say so, I think that the course that he proposes to take will be much the most convenient.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and Bill read 2a accordingly.

Bill committed: The Committee to be proposed by the Committee of Selection.
