HL Deb 21 June 1927 vol 67 cc808-9
VISCOUNT HALDANE

My Lords, I should like to ask the noble Marquess the Leader of the House if he can inform us when the Trade Disputes and Trade. Unions Bill is likely to be taken.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, I understand the Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Bill will finally pass through the House of Commons on Thursday and it will be possible for your Lordships to read it a first time forth-with, but we shall not be likely to be sitting very late on Thursday. Therefore I should suggest, with your Lordships' consent, that we have a formal sitting before the Judicial Business on Friday morning in order to receive the Bill and read it a first time. As to the Second Reading I desire to consult the convenience of your Lordships. Unless, I hear an objection from quarters to which am bound to pay the greatest possible deference, I should put the Bill down for Second Reading on the following Thursday. If that suits your Lordships it will be so. The subsequent stages of the Bill can be dealt with when that time arrives.

VISCOUNT HALDANE

It may be that more than one day will be wanted for the Second Reading of so important a Bill. That is understood.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

Yes.
