HL Deb 16 February 1927 vol 66 cc129-30
LORD MUIR MACKENZIE

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing on the Paper in my name. I think it is unnecessary to make any speech on the subject of this Motion. I have the authority of the Lord Chancellor, whose absence we so much regret, for saying that he would have moved the Motion himself, the object being to carry out the completion of the consideration of the Poor Law Bill, a Consolidation Bill of which the Committee that was appointed last Session had got through about one half when Parliament was prorogued.

Moved, That a Committee of six Lords be appointed to join with a Committee of the House of Commons as a Joint Committee to consider all Consolidation Bills in the present Session; that the Lords following be named of the Committee—

that such Committee have power to agree with the Committee of the House of Commons in the appointment of a Chairman.—(Lord Muir Mackenzie.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Ordered, that a Message be sent to the Commons to acquaint them therewith, and to request them to appoint six members of that House to be joined with the said Committee.

House adourned at ten minutes past six o'clock.
