HL Deb 09 March 1926 vol 63 cc495-6

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE EARL OF PLYMOUTH

My Lords, this Bill is very much the same as previous Public Works Loans Bills except that it is simpler, if anything, and I do not think it is necessary for me to say very much about it. It authorises as the maximum amount which may be issued by the National Debt Commissioners to the Public Works Loan Commissioners until the passing of the next Public Works Loans Bill, £35,000,000. This figure includes provision not only for demands under the Housing Act, but for advances under the Agricultural Credit Acts, for loans under the Public Health Acts and for education and various minor purposes. If there is any point which your Lordships would like me to elucidate I will endeavour to deal with it. I beg to move that the Bill be now read a second time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Plymouth.)

On Question, Bill read 2a and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
