HL Deb 01 December 1926 vol 65 c1017
LORD PARMOOR

May I ask whether the Government can give us any information as to the course of business?

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VISCOUNT CAVE)

In reply to the noble Lord's Question, I have to say that there is some judicial business fixed for Friday morning, which it is necessary should be disposed of. Accordingly it is proposed that the House shall sit for legislative work at a quarter to three on Friday afternoon. There is only one Order, the Rating (Scotland) Bill. I may add that on Monday we propose to ask the House to meet at three o'clock instead of the usual time.

EARL BEAUCHAMP

My Lords, I am sure that the House will be willing to meet the convenience of the Government in this matter, but I hope the Lord Chancellor will allow me to say that I trust we shall not make a practice of meeting late on Friday afternoon, but that those who have engagements in the country on Friday evening or Saturday morning may be allowed to keep them.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I hope that the House understands there is never any question of individual convenience of members. It is really a question of the public interest.
