THE LORD ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURYMy Lords, I beg to move, That in accordance with the Church of England Assembly (Powers) Act, 1919, this House do direct that the Interpretation Measure, 1924, be presented to His Majesty for the Royal Assent. I need not trouble your Lordships with an account of what this Measure contains. It is really a technical matter and simply facilitates business in regard to the terminology of certain definitions. What it does is to simplify the drafting of Ecclesiastical Measures by arranging that for all Measures, not for each one, certain definitions should be adopted. The matter is entirely uncontroversial. The proposal now before your Lordships has been passed through the Assembly and submitted by the Assembly to its Legislative Committee. The Ecclesiastical Committee of the Houses of Parliament has reported entirely in its favour, and I ask 595 your Lordships, in accordance with that Report, to say that the Measure shall be submitted to His Majesty for Royal Assent.
§ Moved, That in accordance with the Church of England Assembly (Powers) Act, 1919, this House do direct that the Interpretation Measure, 1924, be presented to His Majesty for the Royal Assent.—(The Lord Archbishop of Canterbury.)
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
