THE EARL OF CRAWFORDMy Lords, I beg leave to present a Petition asking that the City churches scheduled in the Union of Benefices and Disposal of Churches (Metropolis) Measure, 1924, be not demolished. The Petition is signed by the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the National Trust, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, the Sociey of Antiquaries and other societies and institutions. I ask that your Lordships' House may take this Petition into its cognisance, in view of the fact that the Bill raising this issue is now before a Joint Committee of the two Houses. Technically, the Bill has not yet been before your Lordships' House, but it is none the less desirable that those members of your Lordships' House who are serving on that Committee should be made acquainted with the views of the Petitioners against this portion of the measure.
Petition read, and ordered to lie on the Table.
