HL Deb 11 May 1925 vol 61 c125
LORD PARMOOR

My Lords, I desire to ask the noble Marquess the Leader of the House, whether he can give us any information as to the terms of reference to the Committee, or Commission, to be appointed on the question of the disinterested management of public-houses.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, the form of the Inquiry will be a Departmental Committee and not a Royal Commission, as the subject-matter of the Inquiry is of a very limited character. The terms of reference are as follows: To consider the several systems of disinterested management of public-houses witch have been put into practice, whether in connection with private enterprise or otherwise, and report whether the experience already gained affords grounds for the development of any such system by an amendment of the Licensing Law. I had hoped to give, in addition, the names of the members of the Committee but, unfortunately, they are not quite ready, and I must ask the noble and learned Lord to be good enough to allow me a few more days before I give them to the House.

LORD PARMOOR

I quite understand the request of the noble Marquess.
