EARL DE LA WARR

My Lords, the figures that I have here relate to the period between August 1, 1923, and the present day.

THE EARL OF ONSLOW

Will the noble Karl give me the date? Does he mean the actual date of to-day?

EARL DE LA WARR

I can only say that I was told they were absolutely up to date. The number of houses authorised to be built under the Chamberlain scheme by private enterprise is 90,907; to be built by societies, trustees and companies, 5,778; to be built by local authorities, 52,198; the total authorised being 148,883. The numbers of houses under contracts let or indefinite arrangements are:—private enterprise, 62,492; societies, trustees and companies, 4,842; local authorities, 32,793, making a total of 100,127. The numbers of houses under construction by private enterprise are 28,825; by societies, trustees, and com parties, 1,477; and by local authorities, 14,348; making a total under construction of 44,650. The number of houses completed by private enterprise is 10,167; by societies, trustees, and companies, 1,067; by local authorities, 6,480; making a total completed of 17,714.

THE EARL OF ONSLOW

I am very much obliged to the noble Earl for the very elaborate figures which he has given.
