HL Deb 06 August 1924 vol 59 c459

1. An agricultural wages committee shall consist of members representing employers and members representing workers in agriculture in the county for which the committee act (in this Act referred to as representative members), in equal proportions, of two impartial members appointed by the Minister and of a chairman.

LORD STRACHIE

moved to add to the first clause " for a term of office of three years but they shall be eligible for re-nomination by the Minister." The noble Lord said: My Lords, I merely move this in order that the Lord President may be able to give an undertaking that the matter will be dealt with in the Regulations.

Amendment moved—

Page 13, line 12, at end, insert (" for a term of office of three years but they shall be eligible for re-nomination by the Minister ").—(Lord Strachie.)

LORD PARMOOR:

My Lords, as I have mentioned to Lord Strachie I am quite willing to give an undertaking that the matter shall be dealt with in the Regulations. I am unable to say whether the term of office shall be two or three years. I think at present two years is contemplated. I give the noble Lord an undertaking that the matter will be dealt with in the Regulations and that a definite period will be inserted.

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.

Then (Standing Order No. XXXIX having been suspended), Bill read 3a, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
