HL Deb 26 June 1923 vol 54 c569

Brought from the Commons.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, in moving the First Reading of the Housing, etc. (No. 2) Bill I desire to consult the convenience of your Lordships with regard to its subsequent stages. If the Bill is read a first time now the Government propose to take the Second Reading this day week and the Committee stage this clay fortnight. The Committee stage may require more than one day, but at any rate it should begin this day fortnight. If your Lordships desired a longer interval between the Second Reading and the Committee stage then it would be necessary to bring the Second Reading forward a little, but we thought it would meet the convenience of the House if an interval of a week were allowed between the printing of the Bill and the Second Reading and another interval of a week between the Second Reading and Committee stage. If that suits the convenience of your Lordships the Government propose to take that course.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 1a.—(The Marquess of Salisbury.)

On Question, Bill read 1a: and to be printed.
