HL Deb 14 June 1923 vol 54 c528
EARL BEAUCHAMP

May I ask the noble Marquess the Deputy Leader of the House if he has any information to give with regard to the state of the health of the Lord Chancellor?

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, this account has been furnished to me:—Whilst staying in Somersetshire nearly three weeks ago Viscount Cave was seized with an attack of peritonitis. The peritonitis having subsided, an operation has been performed for the underlying condition. The seriousness of the operation demands restraint in statement, but the condition of the Lord Chancellor in proportion to the circumstances is satisfactory.

All operations are, of course, serious, and I am sure your Lordships will have heard with the greatest possible satisfaction that the condition of my noble and learned friend in proportion to the circumstances is satisfactory. I am sure we all hope for his speedy recovery and full restoration to health, and for his return to the service of your Lordships' House.
