Clause 2:

Short title and construction.

2.—(1) This Act may be cited as the Agriculture (Amendment) Act, 1923.

(2) This Act shall, so far as it relates to England and Wales, be construed as one with the Agricultural Holdings Acts, 1908 to 1921, and, so far as it relates to Scotland, be construed as one with the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Acts, 1908 to 1921, and this Act and those Acts respectively may be cited together as the Agricultural Holdings Acts, 1908 to 1923, or the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Acts, 1908 to 1923. as the case may be.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES (THE EARL OF ANCASTER) had Amendments on the Paper with the object of making subsection (2) read as follows: (2) This Act shall, so far as it relates to England and Wales, be construed as one with the Agricultural Holdings Act, 1923, and, so far as it relates to Scotland, be construed as one with the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Act, 1923, and this Act and those Acts respectively may be cited together as the Agricultural Holdings Acts, 1923. or the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Acts, 1923, as the case may be. and a further Amendment to insert, at the end of the clause, the following new subsection: (3) Section one of this Act shall be inserted in Section fifty-seven of the Agricultural Holdings Act, 1923, as subsection (4) thereof, and in Section forty-nine of the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Act, 1923, as subsection (5) thereof, and a copy of each of those Acts with Section one so inserted and numbered shall be prepared and certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments and deposited with the rolls of Parliament, and the King's printer of Acts of Parliament shall print in accordance with the copy so certified all copies of the said Acts which are printed after the commencement of this Act.

The noble Earl said: The first four of the Amendments which stand in my name on the Paper are purely drafting Amendments, rendered necessary by the Consolidation Act of this Session becoming law. I hope that the noble Lord will accept these Amendments.
