HL Deb 13 February 1923 vol 53 cc47-8
VISCOUNT GREY OF FALLODON

Can the noble Marquess give us any idea what the course of business is likely to be? I understand there is only formal business this week.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE MARQUESS OF SAMSHURTY)

My Lords, perhaps I may be allowed to answer the question. We propose that there should be little more than a formal sitting to-morrow, for the purpose of some business connected with the Committees of the House. I believe the Lord Chairman will move a Resolution. It will also afford an opportunity for the noble Viscount upon the Woolsack to introduce a Bill called the Industrial Assurance Bill. It will only be the First Reading, and there is no reason why your Lordships should expect a discussion upon it. We want to get the First Reading as soon as possible in order that the Second Reading may be taken next week. If it be in conformity with your Lordship's wishes, we propose to take the Second Reading on Tuesday next. I am not able to give any further information. No notice has reached us of any Motion by independent Peers, but possibly by to-morrow something of the kind may have crystallised, and I shall then be able to make a further statement.
