HL Deb 18 April 1923 vol 53 c689
EARL RUSSELL

My Lords, I beg to make the Motion of which I have given Notice; namely, That leave be given to the Earl Russell to advance his question which was set down for Wednesday, April 25, and now stands for "No day named," to Tuesday, April 24. The subject to which this refers is that of the recent deportations from this country to Ireland. I am sorry to take even a moment of your Lordships' time with a Motion on a personal matter, but I will tell your Lordships how it arises. I had a Notice on the Paper for April 25 in a position which suited me quite well on the Order Paper. The noble Viscount, Lord Astor, had a Question down for April 24, and for special reasons he desired to put it on the 25th. I endeavoured to change places with him, but I found that I was in conflict with the Standing Orders of your Lordships' House, and that my part of the exchange could not be effected without leave. I beg to move.

Moved, That leave be given to the Earl Russell to advance his question which was set down for Wednesday, 25th April, and now stands for "No day named," to Tuesday, 24th April.—(Earl Russell.)

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

Does the noble Earl propose to advance the Order?

EARL RUSSELL

If the noble Marquess pleases, yes.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
