HL Deb 14 March 1922 vol 49 c464

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF DONOUGHMORE)

My Lords, as I stated in the House last Wednesday, the promoters of this Bill have agreed to withdraw Clause 31 when the Bill reaches Committee. I should like to say that they informed me that they had hoped to find that the clause would be accepted by all parties concerned, but that in view of the opposition which had developed they were prepared to adopt whatever course I thought best with regard to the clause. On this I expressed the opinion that it would be better that they should withdraw the clause, and they at once gave me their formal undertaking to do so at the Committee stage.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2ª. —(The Earl of Donoughmore.)

On Question, Bill read 2ª, and committed.
