HL Deb 14 December 1920 vol 39 c152

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD STANMORE

My Lords, by the Lord Clerk Register Act, 1879, Section 5, a Deputy Clerk Register was appointed at a salary of £1,200 a year, and by Section 7 of the same Act the Deputy Clerk Register performs the office of Registrar General without additional salary. It is now proposed to set up a separate office of Registrar General, at a salary of £850 a year, rising to £1,000 a year. This will not involve any additional call on the taxpayer, as the office of Deputy Clerk Register will not be filled up, but the work of that office will be distributed among various other offices.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(Lord Stanmore.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
