HL Deb 22 December 1919 vol 38 cc510-1

The Amendments made by the Commons to the Amendments made by the Lords and the Commons reasons for disagreeing to an Amendment made by the Lords considered (according to Order.)

LORD LEE OF FAREHAM

With reference to the first Commons Amendment, your Lordships will remember that the Amendment inserted here was a manuscript one and I take the blame for not having observed that it really would make the clause more or less unworkable. The words "when requested" which were inserted are obviously superfluous to the first part of the clause and contradictory to the second part. I therefore have to move that your Lordships do not insist upon your Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth not insist upon the said Amendment.—(Lord Lee of Fareham.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

LORD LEE OF FAREHAM

With regard to the second Commons Amendment, I have to move that your Lordships do not insist on your Amendment and that you agree with the Commons Amendment. This is in effect only a drafting Amendment; it involves no alteration in the principle agreed to by your Lordships.

Moved, That this House doth not insist upon the said Amendment.—(Lord Lee of Fareham.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Moved, That this House doth agree to the Commons Amendment in substitution for the Lords Amendment.—(Lord Lee of Fareham.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
