HL Deb 15 December 1919 vol 38 cc91-2

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Onslow.)

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

My Lords, there is a question which arises on this Bill. I do not intend to raise that question now, I merely desire to tell the noble Earl (if I may) that there is a little difficulty which arises in certain cases where men will receive more by way of compensation than their actual wages. It does not happen very often, but in certain cases it will do so, and I shall be obliged if my noble friend will have the point looked into between now and the next stage, in case I may be wrong—which is often the case—or, if I am not wrong, so that he himself may present an Amendment dealing with it.

THE EARL OF ONSLOW

I am obliged to the noble Marquess, and I will certainly look into the matter.

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
