HL Deb 14 April 1919 vol 34 cc319-20

The Committee considered the following Report from the Sub-Committee appointed to consider the question as to the accommodation of the Empire Parliamentary Association in the House of Lords precincts:—

"The Lord Chairman reports that the Sub-Committee appointed at the last meeting took part in a Conference on March 20th, at which the First Commissioner of Works, the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies, and the Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms were present.

"It was decided that accommodation can be found for the Empire Parliamentary Association in rooms adjoining Westminster Hall. A Minute by the First Commissioner of Works dated March 21st records this as follows:—

"The Committee Room in Westminster Hall with the two adjoining rooms to form the accommodation for the Empire Parliamentary Association during the reconstruction of Westminster Hall, the large room in the Public Petitions Offices to be substituted as a Committee Room, the other two rooms remaining for the use of the Public Petitions Offices.'… 'It was suggested that when the repairs to the Westminster Hall were completed the question of the allocation of this accommodation is to be reconsidered on the lines of the temporary committee room being restored, the Public Petitions offices being transferred to the Empire Parliamentary Association, and room allotted on the floor above to the Public Petitions offices.'

"It is understood that the warrant of the Lord Great Chamberlain has been issued to bring this arrangement into effect.

"March 26th, 1919."

The Report was adopted by the Committee.
