HL Deb 08 May 1918 vol 29 c1052

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE EARL OF CRAWFORD)

My Lords, this Bill proposes to impose a penalty upon persons who sell goods at prices in excess of those laid down by the Food Controller. At the present moment these penalties take place before a Court of summary jurisdiction, and it is proposed to vary the procedure by means of what is technically called an account. It may be necessary to amend a certain part of this Bill for technical reasons, and I therefore suggest that if the Bill is given a Second Reading it be put down for Committee on Tuesday of next week. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Crawford.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
