§ Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.
THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE EARL OF CRAWFORD)My Lords, this Bill proposes to impose a penalty upon persons who sell goods at prices in excess of those laid down by the Food Controller. At the present moment these penalties take place before a Court of summary jurisdiction, and it is proposed to vary the procedure by means of what is technically called an account. It may be necessary to amend a certain part of this Bill for technical reasons, and I therefore suggest that if the Bill is given a Second Reading it be put down for Committee on Tuesday of next week. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Earl of Crawford.)
§ On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
