HL Deb 14 March 1918 vol 29 c445
THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

My Lords, may I ask the noble Earl who leads the House whether he is now able to tell us anything of the proposed course in regard to business and the adjournment for Easter?

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (EARL CURZON OF KEDLESTON)

My Lords, in reply to the Question which has been put by the noble Marquess, I have pleasure in stating that I propose to move on Thursday next, March 21, that this House should adjourn until Tuesday, April 9. The Consolidation Fund (No. 1) Bill is expected to pass in another place this evening, and as it must receive the Royal Assent not later than Tuesday, March 19, I shall have to ask your Lordships on that day to suspend Standing Order XXXIX for the purpose of that Bill. The only other matter that I propose to mention is that before we adjourn for the Easter Recess we shall receive from another place a measure entitled Overseas Trading Department (Secretary) Bill. That is a Bill to regularise the position of the new office to which Sir Arthur Steel Maitland has been appointed in the Government, and it is held that that measure should be passed through both Houses of Parliament in the course of next week.
