PROPOSAL FOR NEW BISHOPRICS.

I.—BISHOPRIC OF BRADFORD.

1. The bishop to be the bishop of Bradford.

2. The diocese of Bradford to consist (subject to the provisions contained in the First Schedule as to rearrangement of boundaries) of the archdeaconry of Craven and the rural deanery of Otley (except the parishes of Arthington, Bramhope, Horsforth, Pool, Stainburn, Weeton, and Wood-side) now in the diocese of Ripon, and the parishes of Tong and Wyke now in the diocese of Wake-field.

3. The parish church of Bradford, subject to the rights of the patrons and incumbent of that church, to be the cathedral church.

4. Subject to the rights enjoyed by any person at the passing of this Act there shall be transferred to the endowment fund of the bishopric of Bradford such portion of the endowment or income of the bishopric of Ripon as will produce or amount to the net annual sum of three hundred pounds per annum.

5. The bishop to be subject to the metropolitan jurisdiction of the Archbishop of York.

II.—BISHOPRIC OF COVENTRY.

  1. 1. The bishop to be the bishop of Coventry.
  2. 2. The diocese of Coventry to consist (subject to the provisions contained in the First Schedule as to rearrangement, of boundaries) of the archdeaconry of Coventry and the archdeaconry of Warwick (except, the rural deaneries of Blockley, Evesham, Peckenham and Pershore), all now in the diocese of Worcester.
  3. 3. The parish church of St. Michael, Coventry, subject to the rights of the patron and incumbent of that church, to be the cathedral church.
  4. 4. Subject to the rights enjoyed by any person at the passing of this Act, there shall be transferred to the endowment fund of the bishopric of Coventry (a) such portion of the endowment or income of the bishopric of Worcester as will produce or amount to the net annual sum of three hundred pounds per annum, and (b) if and when any sum in excess of three hundred pounds per annum shall be re-transferred from the endowment fund of the bishopric of Birmingham to the endowment of the bishopric of Worcester, such further portion of the endowment or income of 402 the bishopric of Worcester as will produce or amount to the annual sum in excess of three hundred pounds so re-transferred.
  5. 5. The bishop to be subject to the metropolitan jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

THE LORD ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY moved to leave out "per annum" at the end of paragraph 4 (Bishopric of Bradford); to leave out "per annum" in paragraph 4(Bishopric, of Coventry) where those words firstly and secondly occur, and to insert "annual" after "any" ["and (b) if and when any"]; and, at the end of the same paragraph, to leave out "the" ["the annual sum"] and substitute "such," and to omit the succeeding words "in excess of three hundred pounds." The most rev. Primate said: My Lords, these are purely verbal Amendments in order to make the Bill clearer. They make no change at all.
