HL Deb 11 May 1916 vol 21 c1001
EARL LOREBURN

My Lords, I ask leave to correct a mistake which has rather troubled me. I have been reported in a number of newspapers this morning to have said, in the debate last night, to Lord Crewe, that he ought not to lead the House. That would have been a very rude thing, if I had said it. I did not say it. My statement merely was that I did not believe the House would agree with him, which was a very different thing. It must have been my fault in not speaking clearly enough.
