HL Deb 16 March 1916 vol 21 c416
VISCOUNT BRYCE

My Lords, I desire to address to the representative of the War Office a Question of which I have given him private notice with regard to the use in our Army of the new steel helmets. I desire to ask the noble Lord whether he can add anything to the answer which he gave to me on this subject on Thursday last, and especially whether he can tell me what prospect there is of the whole of His Majesty's Forces in the field being equipped with these helmets, which have proved very valuable in the French Army.

LORD SANDHURST

My Lords, I am grateful to my noble friend for giving me an opportunity of supplementing my answer in reply to the Question which he put to me a week ago on this subject. I am glad to be able to tell the noble Viscount that a very large number of steel helmets, some hundreds of thousands, have already been issued to the Army, and it is the intention of the Government to ensure, as rapidly as possible, that every man in the Army to whom a helmet would be of any good shall have one at his disposal.
