HL Deb 11 April 1916 vol 21 cc666-8
VISCOUNT MIDLETON

Before the House rises, can the noble Marquess give us any idea as to the adjournment for Easter? Is it intended that the House should sit next week?

THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

I am given to understand that there will be sittings in another place next week probably up to Wednesday. In that case it will no doubt be necessary for us to follow their example. But as soon as I can I will make a definite announcement for the benefit of the noble Viscount and the House generally.

LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH

Can the noble Marquess inform me what the Government propose with regard to the Marriage (Scotland) Bill, which came up from the other House to-night? It is an important measure and ought to be passed. But do the Government intend to pass it before the Easter recess?

THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

I cannot answer my noble friend at the moment. I understand that the Bill has been put down for Second Reading to-morrow, but as to its further stages I am unable to make any statement in the absence of my noble friend who is in charge of the Bill.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

Will the House only sit next week in order to deal with financial business, or will there be regular sittings?

THE MARQUESS OF CREWE

That will depend rather on what may appear on the Paper.

House adjourned at Seven o'clock, till To-morrow, a quarter past Four o'clock.
