HL Deb 17 March 1914 vol 15 c511

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee, read.

LORD PARMOOR

My Lords, a noble Lord opposite has indicated to me that he desires further time to consider this Bill before the House resolves itself into Committee upon it. Therefore I suggest that the Committee stage should be postponed for a week in order that there might be full opportunity for its consideration.

LORD SOUTHWARK

My Lords, I should like to say that it was without any desire to oppose or unnecessarily delay the passing of this Bill that I appealed to Lord Parmoor to postpone for a week the consideration of it in Committee. I did so for the reason that I think it would be very unfortunate if the Bill were to pass through this House and it was then found that some Amendments were desirable which there might be some difficulty in getting inserted during the passage of the Bill through the other House; and I therefore thank the noble Lord in charge of the Bill for agreeing to defer the Committee stage.

Committee of the Whole House put off accordingly to Tuesday next.
