HL Deb 12 March 1914 vol 15 c499
THE EARL OF SELBORNE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Lord Chancellor whether he has received any more information with reference to the case of Sarah Savage.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

The noble Earl and your Lordships will have observed from the newspapers that Sarah Savage has been released. The reason for that is that Miss Neal has undertaken to look after her, and also to see that the children are attended to. Mrs. Savage has been released, not because the Home Secretary took the view that the magistrate was unduly severe-the Home Secretary thought the conduct of Mrs. Savage merited a criminal prosecution-but because in the circumstances it has been thought better for every one concerned that she should be out and under the care of Miss Neal. Proper steps have been taken to ensure that, and Mrs. Savage and her children are now under that lady's care.
